I love date nights with my husband because they bring us out of our normal element. We leave behind all of our dirty dishes, piles of laundry, and unending to-do lists, and we just get to focus on each other and be in the moment. We get to leave our worries behind and have an experience together, whether it be a fancy dinner out, sitting at a bar and having one too many glasses of sangria, working together at an escape room, laughing at a stand-up comedian, and the list could go on. It’s fun to get out of your element with your loved one and live life.

Enter in the concept of a family date night! Although a date night alone with my husband also means adult conversation and no kids, family date nights have their own advantages. You are still getting out of the house and having an experience together that you wouldn’t have at home. We recently had a family date night at a Bridgeport Sound Tigers game and it was definitely my favorite family memory from this month. My husband doesn’t work a regular 9-5 job, so when we get time with him on nights and weekends, it is extra special. Our date night out at the Bridgeport Sound Tigers was no exception.

I’m not going to lie, as we were getting ready to leave our house for the game, both of my daughters were crying, my 5-year old had a major attitude, and staying at home curled up watching TV on the couch sounded more appealing at the moment. But we braved the cold to the game and I am so glad that we did. Between the yummy food {who doesn’t love soft pretzels and hot dogs?}, the nonstop action of the game, seeing the Sound Tigers’ friendly mascot {Storm}, and being able to be somewhere that didn’t matter how loud you were, we chalked it up in the win category of successful family date nights. The night was extra special for us because it was Military Appreciation Night and my husband is in the Army Reserves, so we got to recognize how thankful we are for him at the beginning of the game.

This was my first ever hockey game and I decided right then and there that hockey was my favorite sport to watch live and that we’d be back for more, either for family date nights or adult date nights. You know it had to be a good time for my princess-obsessed girly girls to enjoy it! We left the game with happy kids and smiles on our faces.
