It’s Murphy’s Law of parenthood– as soon as you remove the tags from an outfit, your little one is guaranteed to grow two inches overnight. If keeping up with your child’s clothing needs has you at a loss, you’ll want to visit Around the Rosy, a children’s resale boutique that opened today on the Post Road in Westport.
Around the Rosy purchases gently used children’s clothing, toys, and furniture and re-sells them at budget-friendly prices. Owner Taryn Bolotin designed the store to resemble the well-stocked walk-in closet of a mini-fashionista. Bright and airy, with ample room to see each item, its well-planned layout defies the cluttered, packed-to-the-rafters feel of many consignment shops. “I wanted to create a place where people would want to come regularly,” Bolotin says. And she’s achieved that – the store has the feel of a designer boutique at prices that are a fraction of what you’d pay retail – and the heavy rotation of garments results in a perpetually fresh selection for savvy moms.
Bolotin, a lifelong Westport resident, is the mom of two girls, so she knows what to look for when buying for the store! During my preview, the boutique had a too-cute-to-resist selection of everyday clothes and special occasion wear for preemies, babies, toddlers, and boys and girls to size 14. Brands included designer labels (Jacadi, Brooks Brothers, Liberty of London, and Tori Spelling’s childrenswear line, Little Maven) alongside everyday staples (BabyGap, Crewcuts, Nautica, Gymboree). And with prices ranging from around $3.50-$12.50 per item, you’ll walk out of Around the Rosy with more than just a pocket full of posies!
Although clothing takes center stage, Bolotin is also snapping up pre-owned children’s furniture (except cribs and car seats) and pre-loved toys. Hooray! You’ve found a home for all those BPO’s (big plastic objects) that your toddler has deemed unworthy of their attention but is taking up precious space in your playroom.
Since Around the Rosy is a resale boutique, not a consignment shop, the process of bringing your child’s gently worn items is hassle-free. Pack your items up (plastic storage bins are preferred) and drop them off on buying days (Wednesday through Saturday). Bolotin will select the pieces that she’d like to purchase for the shop and, once a price has been agreed upon, she’ll either give you cash for the items or give you credit towards shopping in the boutique – plus a 10% discount on anything that you purchase from the store! Unlike consignment shops, there’s no waiting for the item to sell before you’re paid! Wait…it gets better. You don’t even have to haul off the goods that Bolotin doesn’t feel she can sell at the shop – she’ll donate them to Big Brothers/Big Sisters. Everyone wins!
Even Macklemore would approve.
