Fairfield County offers a few ferries, sails, and cruises that will take you and your family out on the Long Island Sound. This summer, there are a variety of COVID-19 safety procedures in place, which may include: a smaller maximum number of passengers, screening passengers, requiring masks, and/or increased cleaning/sanitizing. The Schooner SoundWaters offers 2-hour public sails all summer long from Stamford. “Afternoon Sails” sail on Saturday and Sunday, and the fee is $35/adult and $20/child (age 5-12). “Sunset Sails” sail Wednesday thru Sunday, and the fee is $40 per person.
The Spirit of the Sound offers cruises on the Long Island Sound until Labor Day. Cruise options include: Norwalk Islands (1h30min, $31.50pp), Birding (2h15min, $41.50pp), or Sunset Cruises (1h30min, $31.50pp). Schedule varies.
The Norwalk Seaport Association offers 2-hour harbor/lighthouse and sunset tours. The ferry runs Wednesday thru Sunday, and the fee is $30/adult, $18/child 12 and under, or they offer a “Family 4 Pack” deal. “Sunset Cruises” are offered at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday thru Sunday, and the fee is $30 per person.
The Bridgeport & Port Jefferson Steamboat Company runs year-round, although the daily schedule varies by season. The sailing time is approximately 1¼-hour, and the round-trip fee is $33/adult. When you arrive in Port Jefferson, the ferry lets out near the end of Main Street. We think Port Jeff makes for a great day-trip!
