Warmer Weather Toy Wishlist

3

A girl blowing bubbles.I don’t know about you, but my family has enjoyed this warmer weather! On sunny days, we try to get outside as often as possible. Fairfield County has great parks, playgrounds, and beaches. We love to go for walks or run around in the backyard.

Last year at this time, my 16-month-old daughter was only a few months old, and let’s say that enjoying the warm weather with an infant was so much different than now, with a very active, must-run-everywhere toddler.

I usually try to keep our toy purchases to a minimum, but every time we’re outside, I’m reminded that it’s time to buy some outdoor entertainment. Here are a handful of our favorites for warmer weather outdoor play.

Balls

My daughter has been learning to throw and kick a plush ball inside the house, but I’d much rather move this activity outside. Crocodile Creek has the most adorable 5″ and 7″ playground balls. I’m just not sure how I’ll pick a favorite pattern!

Bubbles

My daughter loves bubbles, and this is another activity that is much better suited for outside. The problem is that I usually blow bubbles until my cheeks hurt and I’m out of breath. This Melissa & Doug Bella Butterfly Bubble Set or a bubble machine seems like a no-brainer.

Beach Toys

I’m not sure what my daughter will think about the sand at the beach, but I know she loves playing with our kitchen utensils. I don’t mind her playing with them in the living room, but she won’t be bringing them outside. This Melissa & Doug Seaside Sidekicks Sand Baking Set seems like a perfect compromise.

Sprinkler

Summer will be here before we know it (woohoo!), and there’s just something so fun about running thru the sprinkler on a hot day. The Octopus Sprinkler from Prextex or their giant inflatable unicorn will keep the kids busy and the grass growing!

Chalk

This activity will keep the kids busy, and your driveway, sidewalks, and street will look beautiful! Give them some painter’s tape to create mosaic designs or fun chalk holders to create unique patterns.

Books

Although a book is not a toy, they allow for hours of fun outside! I love teachable moments, and my daughter loves Maisy books, so Maisy’s Wonderful Weather Book and Maisy Grows a Garden would be great additions to her bookshelf and can motivate us to grow our own garden.

  1. I was just thinking about what I can buy for my 15 month old to play with outside. Thanks for the tips! Another great toy is a water table. We bought one and my daughter LOVES it!

    • Yay glad you like it 🙂 I’ve heard a lot of great things about water tables… which one do you have? Do you recommend it?

  2. I ordered this one from Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00D7WLXGI/ref=oh_details_o00_s02_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It doesn’t have too many bells and whistles but my daughter loves it. It comes with two little toy boats that don’t really float very well so we brought out some other toys for her to play with in the water and she likes that. At her age, splashing in the water is pretty entertaining on its own. I’m not sure how long the table will hold her interest but for now it’s great.
