“Two” Is Rough

tantrum

I’ll start off by saying that I love being a twin mom. My girls are super cute and very sweet most of the time. They also just started really interacting and playing together more than ever before. However, this whole “now we are two and we have our own opinions about…everything!” is getting a little old. Being two is rough! With my Birth to Three clients, I call them “big feelings,” but I sometimes have trouble getting through a day without going on “big feelings” overload.

Here are the top 22 reasons why my two-year-olds threw tantrums today:

  1. Twin A wanted Dada to hand her, her waffle, not Mama.
  2. Twin B wanted the left sock on before the right.
  3. Twin A didn’t want to come inside.
  4. Twin B didn’t want to get changed.
  5. Twin A didn’t want to get changed.
  6. Twin A wanted to walk down the stairs, even though Mama said it was fine.
  7. Twin A didn’t want to be taken out of her crib.
  8. Twin B pulled Twin A’s hair.
  9. Twin B wanted a pencil.
  10. Twin A wanted to take her own socks off.
  11. Twin A yanked on Twin B’s shirt.
  12. Twin B wanted the purple socks, not the green socks.
  13. Twin A wanted the green fork, not the purple fork.
  14. Twin A wanted to peel the banana herself.
  15. Twin B didn’t want the other half of Twin A’s banana.
  16. Twin B didn’t want her blueberries cut in half.
  17. Twin A wanted the cowgirl pull-up, not the Minnie pull-up.
  18. Twin A wanted to be held and Mama wasn’t fast enough.
  19. Twin B wanted to be held…at the same time…but not if Mama was also holding Twin A.
  20. Twin B couldn’t get her mittens on by herself.
  21. Twin B couldn’t get her coat on by herself.
  22. Twin A wanted to sit in Twin B’s car seat, but Twin B wasn’t having it.

It takes a lot to deal with “big feelings” all day. And even when it doesn’t seem like much to us, it’s everything to them. I have to remind myself of that all the time. But I also have to acknowledge that although it’s a pain in the you-know-what, it won’t last forever.

So I want to know…Why did your child throw a tantrum today?
