A girl looking at books at the library.September was Library Card sign-up month! Library cards are free to all Connecticut residents with a photo ID, including minors accompanied by a guardian. This is a really simple (and free) way to thrill children, create independence, and teach them the responsibility to read more.

This fall, many Fairfield County libraries offer free or discounted programming for all ages. Check out some of the upcoming programs at our local libraries.

Bridgeport Public Library has many fall activities for the family at all three branches. For the youngest children, they offer a Little Readers Playgroup for ages 0-4. A Kids’ LEGO Club for ages 4-12. There’s even an Adult Game Club for ages 18+ for games like chess, checkers, Monopoly, and more. It’s not only about reading but also about building connections through many of their programs. Many require registration, so check out the links and their full list of events for more details.

Fairfield Library is offering some great classes for children of all ages. There are drop-in events and a few that require registration. Baby Rhyme Time, Terrific Twos, and Wobbly Walkers are a few of these scheduled classes. There’s an afterschool program for grades six and up where they host crafts, games, activities, and more. Adults can participate in their year-long reading challenge, which will push you to read all genres before the end of the year!

At the The Ferguson Library in Stamford is celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month until October 15 with special events all month long. Their weekly Zumba dance parties and lunchtime yoga focus on mental health and wellness. For little ones up to 18 months, they offer weekly Bennett Babies story time on Tuesdays; for kids 18 months through five years, there’s family story time on Wednesdays. Noteworthy this year is the Let’s Talk program, weekly evening conversation groups for adult English language learners.

Ridgefield Library is holding Love Your Library Family Day on September 30 from 2:00-4:00! The library lawn will be filled with activities for the whole family to enjoy, like a bubble bus dance party, a visit from the ROAR therapy dogs, a library activity tour, and more. In addition, this library holds weekly Mother Goose story times for ages 1-2 and Baby & Me playtimes for non-walking infants up to 12 months.

Trumbull Library has a host of arts and crafts activities for adults and children; check out their fall brochure. Regularly, the library hosts a drop-in Toddler Time each Monday for 2-3 year-olds, and each month, they hold a cozy PJ Story Time for kids ages 3-6. This requires registration. The library also offers an excellent opportunity for families to check out local museums with passes. The passes are free to Trumbull residents. Passes include reduced or free entrance for, but are not limited to, Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo, Connecticut’s Old State House, Discovery Museum, and other wonderful sites in Connecticut.
