Say Yes to the Suit

bathing suitTo me, bathing suit shopping used to evoke equal parts excitement and terror. I love a good, fun, flirty suit. I love choosing a bright color or a lively pattern. I love how a good suit evokes thoughts of long days spent at the beach!

However, if you happen to try on the wrong suit, you’ll leave the fitting room feeling less than and longing for your 20-year old body back!

As I age, I’ve cracked the code on bathing suit shopping and have come to realize that it’s all about the brand. Gone are the days of trying on any old bikini hanging in the window of Forever 21. Instead, I now rely on a few staple mom-friendly brands that offer cute and modest suits, flattering to any body type. Below is a round-up of some of my favorite brands and suits for you to try. After all, going to the beach should be fun, not terrifying!

J Crew

J Crew Ruched Bandeau One-Piece Swimsuit

I have to start with J Crew and give them a shoutout for being my go-to swimwear destination over the years. The quality is amazing, and the variety of styles and patterns guarantees anyone can find their dream suit.

As I age, I’m craving more modesty, and my J Crew suits provide that while still looking fashionable.

They get bonus points for offering long torso sizing for us tall mamas!

Summersalt

I had seen Summersalt suits touted by Instagram Influencers for a while but was hesitant to take the plunge as they are not cheap! Last summer, during COVID, with little to do but go to the beach, I decided to invest in some Summersalt suits. I am so glad that I did! They quickly became my favorites!

Their styles are just revealing enough to make you feel feminine while the thick material holds in all the mom bits!  I can’t get enough of their cute colors and patterns. I’ve gotten so many compliments on my Summersalt suits and recommend them to everyone!

I’m even impressed with their diverse advertising, showcasing women of all shapes, races, and ages!

Aerie Swim

Aerie Wrap One Piece Swimsuit

Aerie Swim has some very flattering one-piece styles. However, they tend to be a bit cheekier than the other brands (Think weekend away with your husband as opposed to chasing a toddler on the beach).

Nordstrom

With a wide variety of brands to choose from, you’re sure to find a suit from Nordstrom. They also have a free return policy, so you can order a few to try on in the comfort of your own home.

Target

I have found many cute suits at Target. They look more expensive than they actually are! They also have an amazing selection of maternity suits! With easy returns, order a few and keep what works!
