A Physically Distant Summer

summer funGet those quarantinis in hand and your toes in the blow-up pool! Summer has definitely been different this year, but that doesn’t mean that we can’t continue to make the best of it. Here are some ideas of how to make the rest of 2020 one to remember!

1. Get a Beach Sticker

Fairfield County has some lovely beaches! Even if you only go a couple of times, a beach sticker is a small price to pay for the fun day you and your kids will have building sandcastles and flying kites!

2. Hiking

There are many amazing spots around the county to go on a family-friendly hike. Pack some snacks, make a scavenger hunt, and go exploring.

3. Museums

Surprisingly FC is chock full of fun museums. Most are running at half capacity so that distancing can take place. Some to visit: Bruce Museum in Greenwich, the Stamford Museum and Nature Center, Connecticut Science Center, and Mystic Seaport.

4. Have Play Dates

It is still possible for children to have play dates with their friends while maintaining the needed physical distancing. Riding bikes and scooters together and then enjoying a popsicle on distanced towels is something my family enjoys to do with friends.

5. Visit Farmers Markets

Buying from local, sustainable farmers reinforces the healthy eating that our children learn about, and we preach about. Children can ask questions about the food and be involved in the buying of good eats and the cooking thereafter. Then you can sit down to a great meal the whole family was involved in creating.

6. Go Fishing

Sherwood Island in Westport, Indian Well State Park in Shelton, Saugatuck Reservoir in Weston, and Mamanasco Lake in Ridgefield are all awesome fishing spots!

7. Drive-In Movie

These are popping up all over the place! It is retro fun for the whole family! Mom hack: pack ALL the snacks and grab a pizza to bring with you and enjoy a movie under the stars!

8. Outdoor Dining

Who doesn’t love a meal al fresco? Restaurants are all being excellent about making sure their tables are distanced enough so that all patrons can dine comfortably.

Moms, dads, caretakers…we are the MVPs of our quaranTEAM, and we can still make this a great summer for our kids and ourselves! So, from my quarantini to yours, here’s to the rest of Summer 2020! Cheers!
