Mother’s Day DIY Brunch

0

There is no better meal than brunch! So, what better way to celebrate the moms in your life than with a DIY brunch at home! You can customize the menu for guest’s tastes and dietary preferences, it’s easier with kids to stay home, and you can put simple personal touches into each aspect of your celebration!

To plan your meal, think about timing. I like to have brunch around 10:30/11 a.m. to ensure that you can serve breakfast items and some lunch if you prefer. We LOVE hosting brunch and typically everything we serve can be considered breakfast, but everyone loves breakfast right? Brunch can be traditional with eggs and all the fixings or you can spice it up with some funky hash and monkey bread (OMG so yummy)! My husband loves his Bloody Mary so he is typically in charge of beverages for the day. My hubby has a secret easy cheat way to make his bloodys, while I always prefer to have coffee and then of course a mimosa!

Here are some great ideas for meals and drinks to make your Mother’s Day Brunch a hit!

Drinks:

Bloody Mary  – My husband swears by the V8 Spicy (low sodium) vegetable juice! He spices it up with some horseradish and adds lots of yummy spices! If your not daring and want to stick with a traditional Bloody Mary, click on the link! Another option is to use tequila instead of vodka to make a Bloody Maria!

Mimosa – The traditional mimosa made up of orange juice and champagne is delicious. To put a new twist on it add some St. Germain Liquor or even try Trader Joe’s Mango Orange Pineapple juice! So Yummy!

Main Meal Ideas:

I always have your stereotypical breakfast food: scrambled eggs, bacon and sausage. You could change it up and do eggs to order or eggs Benedict, but here are a few of my favorite recipes for your Mother’s Day Brunch!

Tomato, Scallion and  Cheddar Frittata

Baked French Toast

Easy Breakfast Casserole

Sweet Potato, Bacon, Kale Hash (This is a recipe for one serving but can easily be doubled, tripled or quadrupled.)

Berry Granola Pancakes

Dessert/ Baked Items:

Monkey Bread (My absolute favorite brunch item because it’s delicious and SO EASY!)

Strawberry Corn Cakes

Fresh Fruit or Fruit Salad (Always an easy and kid friendly option.)

Lime Tart

Cinnamon Rolls

Now that you have your menu planned, keep your decor simple! I LOVE to use mason jars with burlap ribbon tied around it! You can add a pop of color with another ribbon layer or simply leave it the way it is. I also love to add a bunch of hydrangeas or tulips in the jar to place around the house or line tables. You can also use small potted plants in the same fashion! Using large mason jars you can line the bottom with stones and place a candle in it to provide some light and another simple decor element. Keep your decor easy and simple!

And if you aren’t a DIY type of mama you can always find a great local spot to Brunch
