Meeting My High Expectations: The Volvo XC90 SUV

When it comes to vehicles I drive my babies around in, safety and driving comfort have always been key for me. I have been driving various third-row SUVs for the last 13 years, and I can honestly say the Volvo XC 90 SUV is at the top of my list of the best cars I’ve ever driven.

As someone who is only 5’3, I have felt as though cars were made for only taller people. Comfort has been challenging to find in a vehicle. Car manufacturers have been doing better in recent years, but as soon as I drove the Volvo XC90 SUV off the Riley Volvo Cars Stamford lot, I knew this car was different. My comfort level was immediately at its best. The dashboard and steering wheel were lower than I’m used to, making the windshield visibility seem unreal to me.

Inside the Volvo XC90, it was a new life of driving.

As moms, we spend a staggering amount of time acting as chauffeurs. We need to love our cars and maybe even enjoy our time in them. I had the Volvo XC90 for three days, drove many miles around Fairfield County, and not once did I feel the need to complain about all the driving. Connecting my phone to the car was easy. The heated steering wheel was amazing! We had a cold weekend, and I cannot stress enough how my warm hands kept me happy.

Now that my babies are a preteen and teens and thus taller than me, their comfort is important too. Getting in and out of the third row of the Volvo XC90 was so easy for them. My autistic 14-year-old even said something, and she doesn’t freely give out opinions.

The safety features in the Volvo XC90 put me at ease.

There have been plenty of times we’ve arrived somewhere only for me to hear, “I forgot to buckle myself!” I loved seeing on my dashboard who had their seatbelts buckled or not. This concern began when my children were all out of car seats and booster seats and on their own to get themselves in the car and buckled. This feature allows them to be independent while also easing my mind.

The wide lens backup camera was a welcome sight and made driving in and out of my garage a simple task.

As a fan of using cruise control, I found the Volvo XC90 Pilot Assist to be a breeze to use. The adaptive cruise control helps maintain your speed and safety while on the highway. Even when your children are at their highest distraction level, you can feel safe.

We are a family of five who enjoy heading north to ski for a weekend in the winters. My only reservation with the Volvo XC90 is that it wouldn’t be enough space for all of us, plus luggage, ski bags, and the dog. It is a perfect mid-sized SUV and a car we will consider for my husband when he is in the market in the future. As I said over the weekend, it’s a perfect car for moms who need a minivan but don’t want a minivan.
