DIY Mason Jar Gifts

mason jarsMason jars have become a very popular trend! From drinkware and decor to the perfect vessel for holiday gifts! If there was one thing I have massive amounts of, it’s mason jars! In my past life (aka before kids) I used them for their actual purpose of canning! I would go to local farms and pick fruits and vegetables, to then spend weeks in the kitchen making jams, salsas and yummy fruit butters to give as gifts for family and friends during the holidays! Unfortunately, with 2 kids constantly at my feet in the kitchen, the days of canning are gone! So what do I do with all these lovely jars? Give them as gifts of course! There are so many great mason jar ideas, but here are a few of my favorites for quick and easy gifts for the upcoming holiday season!

Dump Jar This is super easy and is exactly as it sounds! Pick your favorite cookie, bread or snack recipe and simply layer the dry ingredients in the jar! Adding wet ingredients and liquids gets too messy! Be sure to include the recipe with your jar for people to make when received. You could also put the ingredients to make play dough or paint if giving to a child. I love making these with my kids because they are so simple and they love to help. I was using this as a quick math lesson too, to talk about measuring with my 3 year old. I can’t help it, the Kindergarten teacher in me comes out! mason-jar-750113_1920

Favorite Things Jar – Another super easy gift! These are great for secret santa, teachers or grab bag gifts! You can create a manicure jar by putting a nail file, polish, remover and sponges inside with a cute tag on the outside. Another great idea, one that teacher’s love, is a coffee jar! Include k-cups and powdered creamer inside the jar with a gift card! They can use the jar to make coffee and the gift card as back up. Can you tell I speak from experience? Think about your favorite things or your gift recipient, throw a few things in the jar with a cute tag and call it a day!

Homemade Items As I said above my favorite item to give during the holidays was some of my canned goodness. I loved picking the fruits and veggies and preparing them into something my family and friends could enjoy long after the holidays were over. Mason jars are great for canning and preserving foods to enjoy all year long. They are also great for homemade body scrubs, soaps, cleaners and laundry detergents. Here are a couple quick recipes for homemade scrubs! One of my favorite mason jar gifts was “Shower Melts” my sister inlaw made. jam-428094_1920

The number of gifts you can create using a simple mason jar are endless. Google and Pinterest are full of creative and easy gift ideas for any recipient!
