Our Love Story (with a ‘new’ couch)

{Cue flashback}

I’m going to be straight up here. My husband and I have not bought a truly NEW couch since November 2008 when we became homeowners in North Carolina. We had more rooms to fill than our tiny apartment so we purchased a three-cushion, a two-cushion and a chaise. (I know there are more specific terms but I am clearly not an interior design person). In the nearly eight years since this purchase, our mint green upholstered furniture has seen it all. A puppy along with two babies and all the bodily functions that come along with little people and animals. I spent many nights on those old couches cuddling babies under heavy knit quilts, but it was time for an upgrade.

They had no room in their new place for this amazingly large sectional, so we volunteered to take it! Win! We spent a few hours moving pieces around trying to decide the best spot for it and since then we pretty much say, “I love this couch,” every. single. day.

So here are my top five reasons I love this new-to-us sectional:

  1. We can get more bodies closer together. (See title photo). This means snuggling during Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune every night before bed.
  2. It partitions the room off. We now have a separate ‘play area’ for children’s toys. I always feel like I’m picking up their stuff all day long but this way I at least return their stuff to the ‘correct’ half of the room and not feel like I’m staring at a pile of puzzle pieces or ImagiNext figures while I correct papers, watch a show, or write emails.
  3. We are revisiting rules like ‘no eating on the couch’ to keep it clean. Okay, yes, the dog is on there. It’s harder to change her habits than the kids’.
  4. Our living room is less cluttered with furniture than before. It provides the same number of seats while leaving more space for playing. We have two medium-sized area rugs, one in front of the sectional so the kids can snack while watching TV and the other behind the sectional so they can play cars, light sabers, or trains.
  5. Amazing naps. With our LAF (left-arm facing) chaise and the sofa/corner/sofa there are two perfect places to get a little shut eye.

How many of you mommas out there have sectionals? Why do you love them?
