Meet Lauren

Hi everyone! I’m Lauren, and I’m turning 40 this year. Let’s just rip that band-aid off. I’ve been married for almost 15 years (this August!) to Scott and have two daughters, Madelyn, 6 1/2 and Amelia, who will be 3 in July.

Scott and I both grew up in Brooklyn, NY but moved up to Fairfield County for work about 11 years ago. We are really happy our kids are growing up in Connecticut. I’m a full-time working mom, a role I hadn’t really planned on BEFORE I had kids! My mother stayed home with my sister and I until we were in school, and I always assumed that would be my plan as well.

But life, as we know, doesn’t always look like what you thought it would. I found myself back at work once my maternity leave was over. I love working in the TV industry and looked forward to getting back to work after each of my children were born. Balancing work and kids can definitely be a challenge – and sometimes feels impossible – but we make it through.

Why I’m Here

But this year, the year I turn 40 (oh, did I already mention that? Haha!), I’ve fallen into a solid routine: elementary school drop off, daycare drop off, work a full day, then back to daycare for pick up, then home to relieve the babysitter who picked up my oldest.

Every day, that schedule, on repeat. I wanted something more. An outlet to share all of the things I say in my head every day, so, here we are.

I’m thrilled to be one of the newest contributors for Fairfield County Moms Blog. I can’t wait to share our weekend adventures (we’re total foodies and have been known to do some serious traveling just to try a restaurant we’ve been obsessing over on Instagram), my take on playgrounds (spoiler alert – I don’t like them!), and everything else happening in this crazy life!

As the school year is coming to an end, I feel like our calendar is really filling up! My big girl is in ballet class (recital time!) and Girl Scouts; not to mention all of the end of year events at school, and I’m learning the very difficult art of  saying  no. We really can’t do everything.

I stand by the belief of one day of fun on the weekends and one day of quiet. I’m always game to stop by a carnival or a festival on the “quiet” day, but I find that we do better as a family when we have at least one day during the weekend to rest and recharge. Nothing scheduled, no place to be at a specific time, just seeing where the day takes us (quite often, it takes us to Stew Leonard’s!). It’s important for my kids to have fun and enjoy being kids, but in a home with two full-time working parents, we also need to rest and set our family up for the week ahead.

What kind of family are you? Get up and go from sun-up on Saturday until sundown on Sunday, or do you need a recharge day as well?
