Home is where the heart is

See that picture? I never look like that. I’m usually covered in goldfish crumbs, hair tied back, definitely no make up, wearing my beloved yoga pants. You want to know a secret though? I was WEARING yoga pants for that photo shoot. Ha! Since it was just a headshot, and I ran out of the house in hopes of preserving my make up and hair, I told the photographer: strict rules…nothing below the belt!

I grew up in West Norwalk, went to Norwalk schools, and even stayed in Fairfield County for college after a brief stint at the University of New Hampshire. At 25 I was ready to (finally) strike out on my own and I did so in a big way.

I moved across the country to Colorado. The only person I knew in Colorado was my Dad. I had never lived on my own, and hadn’t successfully lived too far away from home ever. So it was a huge leap of faith for me. It definitely was one of the scariest things I had ever done. But I learned so much about myself in the process. I found a job, an apartment, and eventually met my husband, got married and had 2 beautiful kids. I lived in Colorado from 2007 to 2015 and we just moved back to Connecticut to be closer to my family.Colorful Colorado (2)

I proved to myself during those 7 years that I could do anything. I could be anything. And I learned how very much Fairfield County a.k.a. “Home” meant to me.

I wanted my kids to have the same joys I did growing up. I wanted them to go apple picking in the fall, sailing in the summer, and make relationships that lasted.

Sure, I guess they could have done that (or some of it) in Colorado, but the taste of home was what I was missing the most and I’m determined to show them how amazing my “home” is and hope that they look back on their childhood with the same reflections.

So who am I, really? I’m a Mom, a wife, a daughter, sister, niece and friend. I’m a stay at home AND work at home mom. So often, those who hear that exclaim how lucky I am; and, in many ways I am. But there are many days when I long to work in an office and have distraction free work time instead of walking the (thin) line between both Mom roles.

Our days are crazy as I seem to tow that line between Mom and VA (virtual assistant). I have special training in toy hostage situations and toddler negotiations. I also am able to provide my clients with non-Mom brain advice and assistance on their marketing, content creation and business building tactics. I love being able to be that person for my clients, and I love being able to show my kids that there’s more to me than just “Mom.”

Speaking of, I have two beautiful, healthy, happy, precocious and adventurous children. One boy, Jaxon who is 4 1/2 and one girl, Brenna who is 2 1/2. They are spunky, funny and just generally awesome. While I know I am biased, my husband Steve and I are incredibly lucky. Our children are amazing (if I do say so myself) they allow us to laugh, observe and at times drive us to the edge of our sanity. Steve himself is the best Dad and partner I could ask for and I love our little family.

I am so excited to be here. Often times I’ve read this very blog in my overwhelmed Mommy moments as a reminder that we are all on this journey together, and while mothering toddlers or kids of any age can sometimes feel like an isolating experience I know that we are all on this same adventure together. My goal is to bring humor, sarcasm and gratitude to this amazing experience called motherhood.
