A woman holding a baby on a plane.Travel: To go from one place to another, as by car, train, plane, or ship; take a trip; to travel for pleasure.

Baby: A newborn or recently born child; infant; the youngest member of a family, group, etc.*

These two words usually conjure up happiness and excitement. However, these same words may invoke anxiety, stress, and worry when used together!

I’m pleased to tell you, traveling with your baby can be a rewarding experience, filled with…dare I say…FUN! It’s true!

Have no fear; Mommy Jenn is here! I’ve always loved to travel. I enjoy the freedom of navigating alone and the camaraderie while traveling with friends. I love visiting new places, but understanding the energy it takes to “get there” can be an adventure in and of itself. I learned that being prepared, packing light, and adaptable help makes even the most unexpected tribulations manageable. Now that I’m a Mom, I rely on those same tools for trips with Baby. I’m glad to share some suggestions on traveling with Baby in a new series called “Globe Totters.”  I’ll cover different forms of travel, how to prepare, pack, travel lighter –and happier– than you may think possible!!

With a French Papa who has a home in the Caribbean and New York Mommy who now lives in Fairfield County, our baby girl was born to be a traveler! Just like her big sister (Papa’s 1st), who travels from France to spend the summer in CT and/or wherever we decide to jaunt! Papa and I met while traveling, and we conceived while traveling. I flew until 7+ months pregnant and had to get clearance from my Ob/GYN and sign waivers with certain airlines! Seeing friends and family outweighs the hard work it takes to prepare to go away…even if you don’t realize it until you get there!

The pointers I’ll share have worked for us while traveling with our little ladybug. At eight months old, she had a whopping nine stamps in her passport and was on 15 separate flights. This does not include cars, boats, or her ‘ship to shore’ transport on a wave runner at just over three months! She started flying when she was about 14 weeks old. Looking at the expressions on some of the passenger’s faces when boarding, I can understand WHY new parents are hesitant to board a plane or even commit to a family vacation!

What do I do differently after sitting through a flight when Baby’s diaper has runneth over? A lot! Who is your most important “go-to” person when traveling on a plane, and why? There’s more than one “right” answer. What NOT to give your baby when traveling in the car? Advice to prevent more than choking. What is the #1 MOST IMPORTANT tip to know when traveling internationally? Potentially lifesaving information! We are ALL learning from each other, and I hope the suggestions I’ll be sharing over the next few weeks will have you better prepared and feeling confident! What are some traveling triumphs OR traveling troubles you’ve experienced? I’d love to hear about it and maybe use YOUR example in an upcoming post!
