Our Family Leprechaun

There is something about the last couple of months of winter that could drive a mom mad. Especially now that we are all trapped at home. And spring starts to tease us with warmer weather, only for winter temperatures to come back in full force. The hours between nap and dinner also tend to test my patience. Last year amid my madness, I gave birth to “Lachlan.”

Lachlan is our leprechaun. He was named from a Google search of Irish boys’ names and a play on my maiden name, which is McLaughlin. While I am strictly anti-Elf on the Shelf, I thought a few days of a Leprechaun visiting would bring some added spice to the end of winter days and fill the hours of the day that I dread.

Last year Lachlan visited at naptime and left behind:

  • A Shamrock plant
  • Fruit Loop bracelet making
  • Shamrock wreaths to create
  • Lucky Charm sorting
  • My best friend’s grandma’s Irish Soda Bread Recipe

  • A trip to the YMCA “Shamrock Hunt”
  • Lachlan decorated our kitchen with balloons and streamers on St. Patrick’s Day morning and brought fun hats and headbands to wear[easy-image-collage id=50351]

Lachlan arrived a wee bit earlier this year on March 1 with a shamrock countdown to St Patrick’s Day. He comes at night to leave his surprises since my three have almost entirely given up naptime.

I have enlisted my husband’s help – who knew he was such a great rhymer? “Not enough green could be seen in your space. So I shared some shamrocks above your fireplace.”

Lachlan and his shenanigans brighten the end of winter for our family. What would you suggest he should do or bring to our house this year? Hey, maybe he can even stick around to entertain the kids for the rest of the month!

Jamie is a mom to a daughter (2014) and boy/girl twins (2016). She was born and raised in Westchester County, NY and together with her husband (married in 2011), made Danbury, CT their hometown. Jamie is a real estate agent with William Raveis Real Estate. In the present day, more than ever before, “home” is an essential and safe place in an ever-changing world. Helping clients achieve their homeownership goals, searching for the home that’s “just right,” or helping them move on from a home that no longer serves them drives Jamie in her real estate career. Home for Jamie is Northern Fairfield County, and she never gets tired of spending time in the community with her family, visiting her favorite parks, and exploring local shops and restaurants. Jamie can be found on the Peloton leaderboard at 6:30 every morning, which fuels her long days of work and momming. Morning workouts are as athletic as she gets, and her favorite thing is tucking her children in at night and catching up on whatever show she is streaming. As much as she loves staying in, she doesn’t pass up a night out with her childhood girlfriends or a date night with her hubby.
