Fairfield County Donut Shops

1

donut shopsDid you know that the first Friday in June is National Donut Day?  I don’t know about you, but I’ll take any excuse to pick up a sweet treat from one of Fairfield County’s most popular donut shops. Here’s a roundup of some of our favorites. Which ones have you tried?

Coffee An’ Donut Shop
(Westport): This local favorite makes fresh classic donuts and coffee. Tip: cash only!

Donut Crazy (Shelton/Stratford/Westport): They have giant donuts with tons of unique flavors like red velvet and French toast. To make it even better, each month, they offer “special appearance” donuts (also known as “crazies”) if you’re looking to try something new. They also have delicious bacon, egg, and cheese sandwiches and highly addictive coffee.

Donut Delight (Norwalk/Stamford): Who doesn’t love a drive-thru? Especially when you can get a caffeine fix and snag a yummy treat! Must try: blueberry cake donut or chocolate glazed.

Doughnut Inn (Fairfield/Stratford): This spot has been open for over 30 years, and the donuts are always fresh, and the staff is always friendly. They also offer an extensive breakfast menu! Must try: Boston cream or glazed.

Dunkin’ Donuts (Everywhere!): Quick, cheap, easy, and predictable!

Grammie’s Donuts & Biscuits (Westport): A newcomer on the scene and already a crowd favorite, we can’t get enough of these creative and delicious donuts, cronuts (!) and biscuit sandwiches. They tend to sell out quickly, so order online and schedule curbside pick-up or delivery. Closed Monday/Tuesday. Pro tip: buy extra biscuits and pop them in your freezer (thank me later).

Lakeside Diner (Stamford): Word on the street is that people travel for miles to taste these sweet treats. They make one kind of donut, and it’s out of this world! It’s best to get there in the morning when they are fresh.

Speedy Donuts (Norwalk): This mom and pop shop has no frills, just sugary goodness. Try the apple spider, which is like a gigantic apple fritter. Delicious!

Rise Doughnuts (Wilton): A family business born during the pandemic, serving up craft donuts on Saturdays and Sundays until they sell out (which happens fast, so be sure to follow along for line updates and that week’s flavors on Instagram). They also offer “fritter Fridays” on Friday evenings where you can get a warm apple fritter a la mode.

Uncle Leo’s Coffee & Donuts (Wilton/Redding): They specialize in making old-fashioned hand-cut donuts. Breakfast and lunch are also served daily!
