Do Your Thing CT - Trumbull When my husband and I started searching for our first home to buy when our oldest daughter was nine months old, Trumbull was top on our list because of its commutable distance to both Stamford and New Haven, its affordability as compared to other towns in Fairfield County, and its well-respected school district.

Local businesses were not something I had researched. Fast forward seven years, and a pandemic later, and I now know that we hit the jackpot when we picked Trumbull, in part due to the factors that we had researched before settling down, but even more in part due to the wonderful local businesses that contribute to Trumbull’s culture and community.

When I heard of Do Your Thing CT, a statewide campaign that celebrates locally owned businesses in Connecticut, I immediately thought of all the Trumbull small businesses that my family relies on. Although the past 18+ months have been hard for these locally-owned businesses, with constant challenges being thrown their way, they stuck with it and provided a constant in such uncertain times for our community.

J Bagels – J Bagels is my go-to breakfast and brunch spot. Hands down, they have the best bagels and cream cheese. But it doesn’t end there; everything you’ll find is delicious, from the egg sandwiches to the avocado toast to the freshly made muffins to the smoothies. Their BECs are often the #1 requested breakfast in my house. Their rainbow bagels are the most rainbow-y in all of the land. I have often been known to frequent J Bagels more than once a week, and I’m not ashamed to admit it.

City Line Florist – City Line Florist is my go-to for gifts. I have sent many teachers, family, and friends their floral arrangements, and they are always fresh, long-lasting, and show-stoppingly gorgeous. Beyond flowers, they also have a gift shop that is always fully stocked with unique gifts. I never leave City Line empty-handed, but rather usually with the exact gift that I needed, plus something for myself that I couldn’t rationalize leaving behind. They even package up the gift for you, so it’s perfect for procrastinators like myself who wait until the last minute to shop. I love perusing City Line at Christmastime because they always have the best ornaments!

Plasko’s Farm Creamery & Cafe – Plasko’s is guaranteed to give you all the small-town feels. They have pumpkins and a corn maze in the fall and Christmas trees in the winter. But maybe more notably, they have the creamiest, fresh ice cream {the best pumpkin ice cream ever}, and, most recently, they have a cafe serving up coffee, espresso, lattes, and more. As soon as you walk into the cozy cafe, complete with a fireplace, you’ll never want to leave! They also have many homemade treats available, including my favorite orange cranberry scones.

Fatty Patty – When I want comfort food, Fatty Patty is my go-to. With burgers, hot dogs, fries, and milkshakes {I highly recommend the peanut butter milkshake}, you can’t ask for more. It’s the perfect place for a family-friendly night out. They even offer online ordering, so you can order ahead of time if you’re in a rush.

Hair & More by Dani – Dani was the first person I trusted going to when I was ready to get a pandemic haircut. She listens to what you’re looking for and puts your vision to life. Being a mom of 3 herself, she knows that moms need to be pampered and feel good about themselves! You will leave Dani feeling confident and refreshed. Dani specializes in all things color, precision haircuts, keratin treatments, extensions, and makeup for all occasions.

Shoreline Swim School – Operating out of the Trumbull Marriott, Shoreline Swim School was our constant during the pandemic. The owner Stefanie and her instructors are the best around. They persevered during the pandemic to find a safe way to reopen and continued to adapt as new challenges were thrown their way. They taught my daughters water safety and gave them confidence.

As we close out another challenging year, I encourage you to support these small but mighty businesses.

To celebrate, we are giving away a $20 gift card to each of the featured Trumbull businesses; J Bagels & Cafe, Fatty Patty, Plasko’s Farm Creamery, and Cafe, City Line Florist, and Hair & More by Dani. One lucky winner will be selected on Friday, October 29, 2021. To enter to win, please click HERE!
