As a mom and a real estate agent in Northern Fairfield County, I turn to local businesses to help me in both roles. I am a native New Yorker and just seven years ago was very new to the area. I’m proud of my acquired ability to spout information on all things local to my clients who are in the same position I once was – new to town and looking for the best places to shop, eat, and play.

The global pandemic hit local businesses hard. Many had to change the way they conducted business entirely. These businesses are thriving because of their ability to adapt, provide new ordering systems, new pickup systems, outdoor dining, take-out meals, and put into place safety measures. I am so thankful for my local favorites. Often a trip to these spots brightens our day in some way – a treat, a fun place to spend family time, a meal out or a meal for home (that mom didn’t have to cook), or self-care.

A joint effort between the Office of Governor Lamont and the Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development, Do Your Thing CT takes a distinct approach by partnering with local influencers who create their own content promoting their favorite spots and activate their social networks encouraging residents to support local businesses. Residents and visitors can participate by posting a video or photo of their favorite locally owned small businesses in Connecticut using the hashtag #DoYourThingCT on social media.

I’m sharing some of my favorite local businesses in Brookfield, CT, who are doing their thing and doing it well!

Local Eats

Hacienda Don Manuel is a family favorite for serving up delicious guacamole and chips that the kids devour, and mom’s favorite for a night out whether with family, a date night, or with girlfriends, when I don’t feel like cooking what’s better than a restaurant that has take-out meals AND margaritas to-go.

There are many great restaurants in Brookfield that I enjoy frequenting – Maggie McFlys has an extensive menu and many ingredients, and alcohol is locally sourced. The Brookfield location is recently renovated and has a beautiful outdoor patio for dining. The kids love the fast, casual food at Frankie’s and their fun décor. I could eat the crispy Brussel sprouts from Market Place Tavern daily. They also have a great brunch menu and plenty of outdoor dining space. Bagel Man is THE place for delicious bagels (former NYer approved), coffee, and sandwiches.

Local Treats

Rich Farm serves delicious homemade ice cream in very generous portions. We pop in for an afterschool treat and always leave with leftovers for the freezer.

Bridgewater Chocolates makes the most beautiful and the tastiest chocolates. The perfect place for gifting or “just because” who doesn’t need chocolate in their lives?

Newbury Gelato opened in August 2020 at the height of the pandemic and gave us all something to look forward to. Bringing the taste of Italy to town, Newbury Gelato serves up the creamiest gelato flavors!

Shop Local

Traveling Chic Boutique provides style inspiration to this mom who rarely gets out of her yoga pants. I know when I need a new outfit for work or play, I can find something that’s just right. It is also my go-to place to turn for gifts with their selection of jewelry, accessories, and beauty items.

Buzaid Appliances was established in 1949 and in its third generation of family ownership. Buzaid offers expertise, service, and selection on appliances that you can’t find at a big box store.

With sports back in full swing, Wesco Sports Center has everything for your athletes. They are experts in hockey, skating, and lacrosse gear and have locations in Brookfield and Stamford.

Local Family Fun

JJ Stacks is all-inclusive for family fun and dining. Not only do they have yummy, kid and grown-up-approved food choices, but they also have a mini-golf course that’s perfect for entertaining the family before or after we dine. JJ Stacks has been very active in the community and recently hosted a drive-in movie and fall festival.

At The Pottery Factory, you can create just about anything – pottery, painting, fused glass, candle, and soap making. The studio offers walk-in, studio and virtual events, take-home projects, and many options for parties. A great way to relax and express yourself, The Pottery Factory is fun for all ages!

Bowling is a classic way to have fun with the family, and Strikers of Brookfield provides a great atmosphere for doing just that.

Local Self-Care

Fit For You is a fitness studio that offers a variety of pilates, barre, and yoga classes both in-person and virtually. Alysa, who established Fit For You, shares her love and knowledge of fitness with all ages. My girls attended a pilates camp with Alysa and are begging to return!

There is nothing better than making an appointment at Honeymoon Nails and escaping for a soothing manicure and pedicure. This local favorite has the friendliest staff in a safe and clean salon.

Whether you are looking for a meal, a treat, family fun, or shopping, please consider supporting these awesome local spots.

To celebrate, we are giving away a $20 gift card to some of the featured Brookfield businesses; Rich Farm, Bridgewater Chocolates, Traveling Chic Boutique, JJ Stacks, and Newbury Gelato. One lucky winner will be selected on Friday, November 5, 2021. To enter to win, please click HERE!

Jamie is a mom to a daughter (2014) and boy/girl twins (2016). She was born and raised in Westchester County, NY and together with her husband (married in 2011), made Danbury, CT their hometown. Jamie is a real estate agent with William Raveis Real Estate. In the present day, more than ever before, “home” is an essential and safe place in an ever-changing world. Helping clients achieve their homeownership goals, searching for the home that’s “just right,” or helping them move on from a home that no longer serves them drives Jamie in her real estate career. Home for Jamie is Northern Fairfield County, and she never gets tired of spending time in the community with her family, visiting her favorite parks, and exploring local shops and restaurants. Jamie can be found on the Peloton leaderboard at 6:30 every morning, which fuels her long days of work and momming. Morning workouts are as athletic as she gets, and her favorite thing is tucking her children in at night and catching up on whatever show she is streaming. As much as she loves staying in, she doesn’t pass up a night out with her childhood girlfriends or a date night with her hubby.
