Dentist for a Day {a play date recap}

Fairfield County Moms Blog sponsor, Commerce Park Children’s Dentistry & Orthodontics, provides exceptional dental care for pediatric and orthodontic patients. Their patients’ emotional and physical well being is their number one priority and they strive every day to make each visit enjoyable, safe and rewarding for patients.

We had the pleasure of partnering with them for a fun Dentist for a Day play date event! Children of all ages were invited to learn what it’s like to be a Dentist. This event was completely hands on as children rotated through stations experiencing all aspects of visiting the dentist. To kick things off everyone was greeted by the very friendly, Tina the Tooth. She gave a quick tour of the waiting area full of toy collections, games, and the very popular iPads!

The first station involved learning about nutrition and the importance of choosing healthy foods and drinks for our teeth. Children sorted different foods and either put them in a lunch box or a party bag. Lots of questions were asked and everyone was curious about cavities and what the Tooth Fairy might think.

Next the children went on to learn how to keep a healthy smile by brushing and flossing each day (twice a day!). Children had the choice to dress up as a dentist or a tooth. They practiced the best methods of brushing with a large tooth brush and practiced flossing as well.

Then they were on to learn what it’s really like to be a dentist. Dr. Mary Ritter was there to get everyone set up with all the necessary supplies a dentist might need. Children got to wear gloves and masks and practiced using the various tools to count and clean a patient’s teeth. Most importantly they were all able to realize that visiting the dentist doesn’t have to be scary.

Another exciting thing was to see an X-ray demonstration. Parents were amazed by the technology and how early they can determine whether or not a child may need orthodontic care in the future. Almost everything in the office is digital!

The play date ended with a healthy snack of clementines, bananas, apples, and of course a goodie bag, prizes, and even an individualized certificate! We can’t wait to go back! Who would have thought that going to the dentist would be so much fun!?
