Cruising Norwalk {Date #3 in 12 Months of Date Nights}

12 Months of Date NightsAs a native New Yorker, I am always quick to point out all of the things I miss about my city. My husband, born and raised in Norwalk, is always trying to convince me of all the reasons that he loves Fairfield County. For Date #3 (part of my 12 Months of Date Nights), I decided that I would find something cool to do in Norwalk. Since it was our anniversary, our date night this month is a little more extravagant than our regular date nights like our Backyard Beer Tasting or our Ice-Skating in July. After some serious thought, I decided that a nice boat cruise would be perfect.

Apparently, Fairfield County has some pretty cool places to get out on the water, even if you don’t have your own boat. I decided on a great sunset cruise out of South Norwalk, and plans for dinner after. Since the summer months (and even fall and spring) are great months to enjoy our fabulous shoreline, I put together a list of some great places to get out on the water.

Norwalk Seaport Association: This was the cruise I chose, since they do a fabulous sunset cruise on Friday evenings from 6-8pm. You are allowed to bring your own refreshments, including beer and wine. It leaves right out of SoNo and when you’re done, you can explore the great restaurants that are all within walking distance from the cruise!

Sound Waters Stamford: Happens to offer some pretty cool public cruising options, including day sails for families with children ages 5+. If a more romantic cruise is what you are looking for, they offer a sunset cruise as well.

Greenwich Harbor Cruise to Nowhere: A great way to see Greenwich Harbor from the sea. They depart each day from the Arch Street Dock at 10:00 am and tickets can be purchased right there. It’s a great daytime cruise for family and friends.

Bridgeport-Port Jefferson, NY Ferry: If you are feeling a little more adventurous, this ferry is for you! This is not a cruise, but a ferry that takes you across Long Island Sound to the town of Port Jefferson in New York. It’s a great place to grab some lunch and do a little shopping without having to spend your time in summer traffic getting there. Although ferries run pretty frequently, if you are planning to take your car over, reservations are necessary.

Getting out on the water is really a great way to see our beautiful coastline from a different perspective. I don’t get to do it as often as I should, but this last trip made me remember how much I enjoy it. If you haven’t been out on one of our local public cruises, then put it on your bucket list for sure. Lots of great options for family, romance, or a group of friends!
