Children of the Sound is making a splash as they celebrate their ten-year anniversary of quality swim instruction. They are the largest private swim school in Fairfield County, with an additional swimming location in Westchester County, NY. They pride themselves on creating confidence, strength, and independence in the water.
I recently took my three little ones to the Double Tree Hotel for their first-ever swim lessons. Although getting out of the house with the three of them is a challenge, I was so excited to be able to take them out for a fun activity that all three could participate in…along with my sister and future bro-in-law (with three under three you can never have enough help!)
My oldest son is fast approaching his third birthday, and my twins are seven months old. They do not have much swimming experience, and although they all love splashing around in the tub, bath time is pretty short to get them all ready for bed! I loved that, besides swimming, a top priority is water safety. Their approach to teaching through private and semi-private lessons helps build awareness, self-confidence, and respect for the water.
Shane’s lesson was first, and he was lucky enough to work with Lyes. Shane was very hesitant about going into the water without me. Lyes had a very outgoing personality and helped ease Shane into the water, distracting him with pool toys that were very similar to the ones he was used to playing with in the tub. Since Shane was more interested in squirting Lyes with water, Lyes used this approach to help Shane feel more comfortable. He asked tons of questions and told silly stories as he walked Shane around the pool introducing him to other instructors and students taking individual lessons. He was able to strike a great balance between practice and play. By the end of the lesson, Shane was “crab-walking” along the pool wall and even went under the water a few times! I loved that Shane’s lesson was focused on his comfort level and ability.
Next, my twins, Blake and Brynn, were able to participate in the parent/toddler classes offered for children from six months up to three years. This class was a great introduction for my babies to feel comfortable in the water. Again, there was a great mix of practice and play through singing songs and playing with fun toys. There were about 8 other children in this class with their mommies or daddies. All kiddos were able to practice the same skills at their level. Since my babies were the youngest, during the tune of “Ring Around the Rosie,” they did not fall “down” under the water. However, some older children were able to practice this skill. I loved that they used toys throughout the lesson to engage the children. My daughter Brynn loved chasing after her little rubber ducky, kicking her legs behind her. My son Blake LOVED every second of the class. He could not stop hitting the water and making big splashes.
Overall, we had a great experience! We can’t wait to make another SPLASH with Children of the Sound! For further information on the programs Children of the Sound offers, please visit their website www.childrenofthesound.com and “like” them on FaceBook.
