Beach Day Must-Haves

0

Hello Summer! We’ve already made a handful of visits to the beach, and now that school’s out, we’re planning to visit more often. Over the years, I’ve learned that it’s easiest to keep our beach bag packed (and ready to go!) in the bottom of our coat closet. Getting my daughters dressed and “sunscreened” is often stressful enough. I don’t want to worry about whether or not I have everything we’ll need. As for what we bring with us, here are some of our beach day must-haves:

beach must-havesLand’s End Canvas Tote

First, let me tell you about our beach bag! We have the extra large canvas tote from Land’s End. It fits almost everything we need for our family of four (other than our toys and cooler). There’s a small outside pocket (perfect for sunscreen and baby powder), and plenty of room on the inside. The bulk of the bag is filled with our four towels, which I like to roll to save space.

Super-brella

On super sunny days, you can usually find us under our Super-brella. This purchase decision was easy. We went to the beach one day without an umbrella, wished we had some shade, looked up and down the beach, and saw a dozen Super-brellas. It’s lightweight, fairly easy to assemble, has stakes in the sand so it won’t blow away. And it’s the perfect place to hide ourselves and our belongings.

Saltwater Sandals

These sandals are easy to wear on the sand and/or low tide. Not only can they get wet, but some people say they’ll fit your feet even better after you get them wet. Another benefit is that when you get to the edge of the beach, and you’re balancing your bags and children, you don’t have to stop to take them off or put them back on. They’re more practical than flip flops, and at least 100 times cuter than aqua socks.

Charlie Banana Reusable Swim Diapers

I bought two of these for my older daughter’s first summer, and four years (and another daughter) later, they’re still as good as new. If you think about the number of times your child(ren) might need a swim diaper: beach, lake, pool, splash pad, sprinkler, water table, etc., you could quickly go through a lot of disposable swim diapers.

Wet Bag

At the end of the day, my girls’ sandy and wet bathing suits and reusable swim diaper(s) need to come back home, and our wet bag has been a really convenient way to save the rest of our stuff from the mess. Our wet bag is from Pottery Barn Kids, and although it says to spot clean, I’ve always just added it into the washing machine and then let it air dry.

Sunscreen

As soon as warmer weather arrives, I often see/hear moms asking for recommendations. To be honest, I still haven’t found the right product for my family; but we always make sure we’re wearing something. Wondering which sunscreens might be right for you? Be sure to check out EWG’s “Sunscreen Guide”, and also read the American Academy of Pediatrics “Sun and Water Safety Tips”.
