An Anomaly or Not – My Child Potty Trained Herself

0

I see many posts in Facebook mom groups about potty-training along with the advice that follows. In addition, we have some great resources right here on FC Moms Blog.  A lot of people who are looking for advice on potty training have kids who are pretty young; 18 months – 2.5. Of course some might be totally ready and some probably aren’t anywhere close to being ready.

I have been lucky as my girls have been pretty easy to train. With my older daughter we stayed home for a couple days and by day three she was going herself. Of course we had occasional accidents. One of my twins pretty much has been the same. However, her twin sister, just decided she would do it herself. I just said one day, “Ok you’re wearing underwear,” and that was it. She got on the toilet herself and washed her hands herself. When she has to go she runs to the bathroom with no accidents. This happened right after her third birthday.

I’m writing about it because I’m not sure if other kids have done this. I think I didn’t have to put in any extra effort because she was ready and felt in control. I have to say my experience with her has been so much better than the others, and again they were relatively easy to train as well.

My overall feeling on potty-training is that it’s overrated. Having a kid in diapers is so much easier when on a long car ride or at an event.  Once they are out of diapers they are still learning. It’s so much back and forth to the bathroom and questioning, “Do they really need to go?”

Having my daughter do this on her own terms has reduced a lot of that stress. As a parent who occasionally takes all three girls outside the house by myself, I really appreciate this.

So, if you have a little one and you’re on the fence about training them, just wait a bit. It may cost more in diapers, but it will save a lot of your sanity and time.

I’d love to know if this is an anomaly or if other kids have done this as well. Feel free to leave us a comment.
