4th of July Fashion

1

The Fourth of July is for hot dogs, fireworks, and spending time with your favorite people. Showing your pride on the Fourth of July involves one important tradition (besides the barbecue, of course): dressing in your best all-American outfit. For 24 hours, everyone is draped in red, white, and blue. We’re here to offer all the Fourth of July outfit ideas you need.

The All-American Sweater

It doesn’t get more AMERICAN than the iconic Ralph Lauren Flag sweater. This ensemble is perfect for an evening on the beach, a rooftop shindig, or a neighborhood block party. While the sweater can be a bit pricey, I purchased this sweater for 35% off the price. How you ask? I bought a BOYS large! I learned this hack from local blogger Mackenzie, and it totally worked! The fit is a little boxy, but I absolutely love it. Here I paired the comfortable and classic cable knit with some simple white shorts and our mom-approved Birkenstocks.

Maxi-Dress Chic

Sometimes you have a more elegant event planned for the 4th of July. One of my best friends had her rehearsal dinner on the 4th of July, and this dress would have been perfect for that evening. The easy-breezy silhouette is super figure-flattering, and the whole look can transition seamlessly from day to night. A white denim jacket would look great with this for a more casual vibe.

Cute & Classic

I found this tank at Loft the other day (for 40% off) and could not resist. If you prefer a holiday outfit that looks patriotic but isn’t so “in your face” with holiday enthusiasm, this option is perfect. More importantly, the comfort and ease of the tank and jeans combo totally works for the on the go mom that needs to make a gluten-free pasta salad, bake some Pinterest blueberry, strawberry, cool whip trifle and make sure her children don’t stab themselves or OTHERs with sparklers.

Can’t Forget the Kiddos

It is no secret that our children love an excuse to dress for a holiday, and America’s birthday is no exception. We actually had too many outfits that just oozed “we heart the USA” it was hard to pick just one look to share. So here are numerous outfits that work for the kids. I love that these outfits are all timeless. In fact, the navy blue heartstrings dress that my daughter is wearing in the lower right picture is something I could have easily worn as a child.

The Patriotic Patriarch

The only man in our house (and our extraordinary behind the scenes camera guy) needed some spotlight of his own. My husband styled this outfit himself, and the three Miller girls give it a big thumbs up. I am a huge fan of the button down and shorts look, and the slightly nautical preppy vibe is classic Americana.

Sidenote: Many people falsely assume that the 4th of July fashion staples are a “one-stop shop” that can only be sported once a year. HOWEVER, red, white, and blue clothes can be worn for other events as well… Memorial Day, Flag Day, Olympics, Veterans day, and more.

Happy 4th of July! What will you be wearing?

Nikki has called wonderful Fairfield County her home, her entire life. Growing up on a campus of a private school in Greenwich, CT Nikki swore to her educator parents that she would never be a teacher. Well life has a way of repeating itself and now Nikki and her amazingly supportive husband are happily working at a different independent school in Greenwich. A recovering “type a” perfectionist she is learning to let go of her color coding, alphabetizing ways and embrace the mess. Helping her enjoy life’s everyday messes are her two precocious girls Sofie (11/15/11) and Keira (9/7/13). Nikki loves all things mommy cliché including but not limited to walks on the beach, running, reality TV, organizing closets, wine, chocolate and having her kids help her out in the kitchen.

  1. Agreed – a nice striped maxi dress would have been my choice for a July 4th Rehearsal Dinner and the white denim jacket is key for Maine night fireworks ?
