Growing and delivering a baby is certainly an accomplishment. Even though I’ve experienced pregnancy before, I am still in awe of my body’s ability to nurture this developing child. I sometimes find myself looking at my daughter, my 2.5 year old, and remember feeling her kicks when she was inside my tummy, and, well, I get that “fuzzy” feeling. It’s all so incredible.
While I am 100 percent on board with praising moms for all that we go through, I find the idea of push presents a little silly. I can think of so many things I’d rather have than a million dollar choker necklace—looking at you, Kim K.
So, if my husband happens to read this and is planning to get me that choker (lol), here are 10 things I’d much rather receive than a piece of jewelry.
Help with the laundry. This reminds me…I need to teach my husband how to work the washing machine before baby #2 arrives.
The assurance that all meals are taken care of and offer healthy options. They don’t have to all be homemade, but knowing that we won’t starve or live off pizza is golden.
My family to visit. My family is in California. When my daughter was born my parents and sister came (at separate times), and it was so awesome to have them close by! My mom is planning to come shortly after baby #2 is born and then my sister is planning to come about month after to help during my older daughter’s summer break.
A toddler who always listens. Okay this is a unicorn, but it’s still something I want.
A trip to the hair salon. I’m super excited to be able to dye my hair again. Would love some childcare coverage so I can hit up the salon to get some post-baby highlights!
A great lactation consultant. I will be turning to my lactation consultant from my first pregnancy. I feel lucky to have someone who is so helpful and encouraging. I breastfed the first time around for 18 months and hope I can do the same for baby #2.
Someone to entertain my toddler during the first few weeks. I’m sure the excitement of watching mommy breastfeed will wear off quickly. Kiddo needs to get some fresh air and have some fun! I’m fortunate that my husband can take time off work to help during those first couple weeks.
Awesome nursing attire. A great bra and some comfy shirts will totally make me happy. Something new to wear after the baby comes (no more maternity clothes!) will make me smile.
A relaxing mani/pedi. Sitting in a pedicure chair with a Starbucks and the massage chair rolling…heaven.
Reassurance that I’m doing a great job. I don’t need constant praise, but the occasional, “You’ve got this, Mama,” is always nice to hear.
